Writing is a test of endurance. As I was once quoted as saying on Facebook, I thought the challenging part of writing was the writing, then I found out the edits were the challenge, then the publishing, then the marketing…Well, you get the picture.
As one proceeds down the writing/publishing path, there are many obstacles to be overcome which is why staying motivated is so important.
Writing is typically not a quick fix. It’s a process and at some point you may find yourself asking, why do I do this? This is the first sign that can lead you towards finding out what motivates you to write. Asking yourself why I do this and finding the answer is your sure-guard against the times when writing won’t be so obvious or easy.
Take some time to determine what motivates you to write. Ask yourself why do I, when do I, how do I write. Self discovery is a tool which will help you gain insights and answers. It is a quest one must take alone.
Use your writer’s notebook that we discussed last week to help you explore your reasons for writing. Once you know the why, then tapping into that motivation, when it’s most needed, will help you move smoothly along the path.
Happy Writing
